Cardplay, a New Textual Instrument
نویسنده
چکیده
W e are exploring what it means to 'play' textual literature. We don't mean, by this, playing games that incorporate textual material within their structure but rather textual and literary structures for which play is a primary means of interaction. We are conducting our exploration both as creators and scholars of digital media. This paper discusses a number of related issues — including the notion of "instrumental texts" discussed by electronic literature authors, the critical games proposed by Jerome McGann and Johanna Drucker, and what Markku Eskelinen has characterized as the challenge of ludology (the study of games) to traditional literary study. This discussion then becomes the background for describing a system we are building — Cardplay — its design goals, our authoring work within it, and its relationship to prior work in the hypertext and artificial intelligence communities.

An Open-Source Package for Recognizing Textual Entailment
This paper presents a general-purpose open source package for recognizing Textual Entailment. The system implements a collection of algorithms, providing a configurable framework to quickly set up a working environment to experiment with the RTE task. Fast prototyping of new solutions is also allowed by the possibility to extend its modular architecture. We present the tool as a useful resource...
متن کاملModelling Arti cial Intelligence on a Case of Bridge CardPlay
In this paper a model is constructed for games with communication under incomplete information. The model, based on natural language processing techniques, is developed and tested on a case of Bridge card play bidding. The approach proposed here emphasizes the information processing nature of such games. Finally, some conclusions from implementation of a prototype bidding system and a new metho...

متن کاملMetadiscourse Markers: A Contrastive Study of Translated and Non-Translated Persuasive Texts
Metadiscourse features are those facets of a text, which make the organization of the text explicit, provide information about the writer's attitude toward the text content, and engage the reader in the interaction. This study interpreted metadiscourse markers in translated and non-translated persuasive texts. To this end, the researcher chose the translated versions of one of the leading newsp...
